Jerusalem Beach

I know – it’s confusing but the Jerusalem Beach (formally the Geulah Beach) is in Tel Aviv. Its name comes from the fact that one of Tel Aviv’s former mayors, Shlomo Lahat, “presented” the beach to Jerusalem mayor Teddy Kollek because there’s a standing joke amongst Jerusalem’s residents that they want a beach.

You’ll find it in the southern section of the Tel Aviv Promenade, close to Allenby Street and the Opera House.

It’s a popular beach with a nice fish restaurant, volleyball courts and a kids’ playground. It’s one of the few beaches with lifeguard service in the winter so…

Getting There

From Allenby 6

By Foot (about 13 minutes):

  • Walk northwest on Allenby Str. toward Retsif Herbert Samuel St
  • After 33 meters turn right onto Retsif Herbert Samuel St
  • After 500 meters turn left onto Shlomo Lahat Promenade
  • The Jerusalem Beach will be on your right.

From Ha-ARI 11

By Foot (about 16 minutes):

  • Go west on HaRav Kuk Str. toward Ha-Kovshim St.
  • After 140 meters turn left onto Ha-Kovshim St.
  • Walk for 280 meters then turn right onto Nechemia St.
  • After 220 meters turn left onto Retsif Herbert Samuel St.
  • Jerusalem Beach will be on the left.

From HaYarkon 43

By Foot (about 14 minutes):

  • Head south on Ha-Yarkon Str. toward Yona HaNavi St.
  • After 350 meters turn right onto Ezra HaSofer St.
  • Continue walking another 91 meters and then turn left onto Retsif Herbert Samuel St.
  • After 170 meters take a sharp right to stay on Retsif Herbert Samuel St.
  • After 20 meters turn right onto Shlomo Lahat Promenade.
  • Jerusalem Beach will be on the left.

From the Liber Apartments

By Bus:

  • Walk southwest on Ha-Yarkon Str. toward Arlozorov St.
  • Turn left onto Arlozorov St.
  • Turn right onto Ben Yehuda St.
  • Get bus 10 going to The J Centre/Yeldai Teheran.
  • Ride 3 stops and get off at Ben Yehuda/Bograshov.
  • Walk southwest on Ben Yehuda Str. toward Bograshov St.
  • Turn right onto Bograshov St.
  • Turn left onto Ha-Yarkon St.
  • Turn right onto Morad Tiger Hill St.
  • Take the stairs.
  • Turn right onto Retsif Herbert Samuel St.
  • Take the crosswalk.
  • Turn left onto Shlomo Lahat Promenade.
  • Jerusalem Beach will be on the right.
