Ichilov Medical Center

The Sourasky Medical Center is the second largest full-service healthcare treatment and research medical center in Israel. The Medical Center incorporates four hospital units – Ichilov General Hospital with its new state-of-the art Arison Medical Tower, Sammy Ofer Heart Building and Sammy Ofer Emergency Underground Hospital, the Rehabilitation Hospital, the Lis Maternity Hospital and the Dana-Dwek Children’s Hospital. Altogether the Medical Centers covers some 207,000 SqM and serves 360,000 people.

The original Ichilov Hospital was founded in 1899 and the present hospital was opened in 1963 and later renamed the Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center.

Altogether the Medical center has over 60 departments, 170 out-patient clinics and well over 1300 beds. The hospital has a staff of over 6000: 1,130 doctors (750 specialists, 300 academics and some 200 professors.), 2050 nurses, 750 medical technicians with the remainder being in support positions.

A 1,000 bed secure emergency facility was opened in 2011, The 17 story (four below ground) facility provides protection against conventional, chemical and biological threats and is one of the most advanced facilities of its kind in the world.

Every year the center has some 100,000 new admissions, carries out more than 34,000 surgical procedures, treats some 1,600,000 outpatients, deals with approximately 200,000 emergency room visits and delivers 11,000 babies.

Research and development

The medical center also serves as an instructional and research center affiliated with Tel Aviv University’s Sackler School of Medicine and the Sheinborn Nursing School. Each year, doctors and medical staff are involved in hundreds of research projects and doctors integrate proven research programs into their daily treatment of patients.

World-class trauma center

The hospital’s Trauma Center, has practical experience in dealing with a wide variety of trauma incidents including mass casualty incidents that demand a large scale, focused response to many different injury types.
